Special Education Teacher - Woking, Surrey

Can you engage a young person no matter what barriers they face?

The COVID-19 pandemic has hit young people hard, and it's even worse for those that are vulnerable and who already have barriers to learning. Life and school as they knew it has disappeared, and has been replaced by a scary world full of challenges and chaos.

Here's your chance to become their beacon of hope, their support and their fresh start.

Join Fresh Start in Education's bank of expert Education Specialists. You'll be using your planning, engagement and teaching experience to deliver bespoke education programmes to young people who are unable to access mainstream school. At the end of each session, you'll leave with a smile on your face safe in the knowledge that you've had a huge impact on a young person's life.

So what are you waiting for?

Here are the basics:
As you'll be working on a bank staff contract, you'll be able to choose what days you'll be working, as long as you can offer 2 days per week. It's great for work/life balance and there will be plenty of time to unwind. Working on a placement basis, you will plan and deliver bespoke learning programmes to young people across Surrey and/or West London over 6 to 12 weeks. You and the student won't have to contend with the pressures of the classroom as sessions take place in relaxed environments which give you the time and space to make real progress. The hourly rates are competitive and there's also an additional payment for your planning and reporting.

What’s in it for you?
Fresh Start in Education want your knowledge, skills and experience to come to the fore, so you'll have autonomy in your planning and teaching. They also know how important it is to feel supported, so you'll have an Education Coordinator assigned to you for when you need them, in addition to having access to a bank of resources available to you to use or modify. Travel, food and resources are subsidised, and Fresh Start offer training courses for your professional development.

What do you need to work for Fresh Start?
Safeguarding underpins Fresh Start's work, and they're looking for individuals who are wholly committed to it. Experience is also key, and so you'll need to have planned and delivered lessons to students at Key Stages 1 to 4 with SEN, SEMH needs in addition to Looked After & excluded children and those with challenging behaviour. A non-judgemental, patient, emotionally resilient and person-centred approach is also vital in ensuring that a young person's time with Fresh Start gives them the best chance of succeeding once they return to school.
